What is an Order of Protection?

The court may order the person causing the harassment to completely stop all contact or limit all future contact. Why is an Order of Protection Important?

The order of protection gives the police the authority to get help in situations of harassment, intimidation,  or other violent behavior. This is important, because in Illinois law enforcement / police may not be able to help you when threatening acts occur without a valid order of protection.

What can an Order of Protection Accomplish?

An order of protection will restrict the person named in the order from contacting the so called victim. If the order is granted, the person accused will typically will not be able to:

  • Come within a certain distance of the other person
